In Borderlands 4, the guns that really make you grin are the ones that can clear a room before you even reload. These days, the meta leans hard towards stuff that hits multiple targets in one shot – big splash zones, massive bursts of elemental damage, and the kind of visual chaos that makes you step back for a second. Or those heavy-hitting Jakobs shotguns – one pull and anything within arm’s reach is gone. They might not light up the map like the S-Tier champions, but ask anyone: you can run Mayhem levels all day with an A-Tier weapon and never feel short on firepower.

A big part of the S vs A difference comes down to versatility. An A-Tier Hyperion SMG might be an absolute beast at smashing a boss’s crit spot, but it’s not built for tearing through a mob the way an S-Tier launcher is. A-Tier gear often needs more synergy – the right skills, the right mods – before it really sings. The reward though, when you’ve got that setup locked in, is huge. While you’re grinding for that dream drop, your A-Tier pieces are pulling the weight, racking up kills and keeping you moving.
